I Love Teaching...Math

I did not set out to be a Math Teacher. But after 28+  years in education, I have gotten pretty
good at it. Spanish was my first love along with culture, traveling, people.
Math was never a favorite of mine in school as a student. Yes, I was one of those that got
straight A's, but I also never did anything else. I never really
understood where and when and
how all of this was relevant to "real" life.  Not until I started to teach.  The adventure began in
1982 with my first time experience " When am I ever going to use this?".  I couldn't answer
the question, so I began to explore and find out.

Math is used everyday and everywhere.  From pouring your morning cup of coffee, adding
the creamer and sugar to showering and getting ready for your day; all of these are
mathematical concepts.  Math is not just about numbers.  It is about processes and
relationships amongst living and non-living things. It is organizing, sorting, linking and
eliminating those entities that will not help at that point in time.  Numbers put it into a concrete
world while variables ( algebra) are used to solve the unknowns.
Everything you see was created by math, everything you hear was created by math,
everything we touch and smell was created by math.  Think about it.
